Video editing: how rhythm decides whether your video works

The edit decides which shot and in what order: every frame counts.

You can shoot the best footage in the world and ruin it in the edit, or take something simple and make it memorable. Editing is where a video finds its rhythm and decides what it makes you feel. Here's how I approach that stage.

What a good edit does

Editing isn't cutting and pasting clips. It's building an experience over time: what you see, when, how long it lasts and what plays underneath. A good edit keeps eyes glued to the screen without the viewer knowing why.

Rhythm is everything

Rhythm is an editor's most powerful tool. A cut a fraction of a second earlier or later changes the emotion of a scene. I approach the edit thinking about breathing: when to speed up to build energy and when to let a shot linger so something sinks in.

Structure and narrative

Before polishing, I order it. Every piece —an ad, a reel, a brand video— needs an opening that hooks, a middle with intention and an ending that leaves something behind. Without that structure, not even the best image holds attention.

Sound, music and color

Half of a video is what you hear. I choose the music and shape the sound so the edit has body, and I coordinate the edit with the color grade so image and rhythm speak the same language. If you're interested, here I explain the color process.

Editing built for social media

A video for YouTube isn't the same as a vertical Reel. I edit in each platform's native format, with the hook in the first few seconds and the rhythm each channel rewards. A single shoot can yield many different pieces.

Do I shoot it myself or edit your footage? Both. If you want to see how I shoot, take a look at my workflow with Sony cameras.

Frequently asked questions

Do you only edit, or do you also shoot?

Both. I can handle the full project (shooting + editing + color) or just the edit if you already have the footage.

What formats do you deliver in?

Whatever you need: horizontal for YouTube or web, and vertical for Reels, TikTok and Shorts. From a single shoot I usually produce several versions.

Do you edit footage I shot myself?

Yes. I work with your original files; the higher their quality (log or RAW if possible), the more room there is in editing and color.

How long does an edit take?

A short video is usually ready in a few days; longer pieces or ones with a lot of footage need a bit more. I give you the timeline when I quote the project.

Have footage that deserves a good edit?

Tell me about the project and we'll give it rhythm, sound and color.
